Kaitaia Repair Cafe for July

It was great to see a few more visitors to the recent Kaitaia Repair Cafe held at the Menz Shed on Saturday 27th July. It certainly felt like Spring with glorious sunshine all morning. A couple of Timebank members had brought in some ‘Spring items’ such as a hand shovel, garden loppers and Bug zappers. Pascal worked his magic and fixed and sharpened the garden tools, all ready for the Spring work ahead. Timebankers can use their Timecredits to pay for these repairs which is a fantastic way to get stuff done.

Katene brought in a classic old sewing machine, approx 80-ish years old! It what wasn’t sewing the way it should be, Lyn took a look and used her fantastic problem-solving skills and figured out the problem. All fixed! Katene was pleased to have her machine back in working order and ready to sew some magic.

Anna was happy to have her peeler straightened up and ready for use on her garden produce. So much easier when the tool is at its best and working to its full potential. We also had Raewyn     visit us with wooden toys that needed slight adjustments for children to be able to use them and an old-school Ghetto blaster stereo. There really is such a range of items that our Timebank team can repair!

You'll notice our new fancy sign which will make it easier to see where we are - thanks to the Menz Shed for making this for us!

Something new we’re going to try: If you live out of town and can’t make it to the Repair Cafe on the Saturday (I understand a lot of people only head to Kaitaia once per week etc), then you can drop off your items that need repairing to the Eco Centre, 5 Bank Street, Kaitaia from Tuesday-Friday 10am-3pm. As long as there is a brief explanation of what needs repairing, we can get this done for you! One of the team will ensure it gets to the Repair Cafe on the last Saturday of the month, and you can then collect it.

Next Kaitaia Repair Cafe is Saturday 31 August 10.30am-12.30pm at the Menz Shed, 22 Church Road Kaitaia. Looking forward to seeing you then.
